SHORT AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF ÖZGÜR AKSOY

I was born in Denizli in 1981, because my parents used to work in Çal province of Denizli. I began elementary school in Yenipazar province of Aydin. My teacher suggested that I could skip 1st grade because I could read and write fluently and I was able to pronounce up to four digit numbers easily. I was also capable of basic arithmetic calculations. However, my family decided that I should not skip. In spring of 1986, I got a brother.

In the year of second grade, we moved to Salihli Province of Manisa, where I studied the rest of elementary school. I was admitted to Anadolu High School with degree (978th of nearly 1 million attendees), I studied the middle school in Salihli as well.

In semester break of English preparation class year (February 1993), my parents gave me my first personal computer as a gift (or as a reward). It changed my daily habits after school. For the record, it was a 386SX16, 1 MB RAM, 16 MB HD with a 3.5” floppy disk and no mouse. The operating system installed was DOS 5.0.

Like almost all kids, I used the computer for gaming but I was learning a lot of stuff at the same time. I learnt DOS commands and QBASIC language just by reading.

In 1993, basketball attracted me, as I grew taller very fast. I was in school’s basketball team until the end of middle school.

In 1996 I finally began living in hometown of my family; Izmir. I studied high school in Izmir.

In 1999, I graduated from high school and was admitted to university with degree again (292nd in of over 1.5 million attendees). I got 98 points over 100 in university’s English exam I shared the leadership with another student of some 5000 attendees. Therefore, I skipped the English preparation year.

I studied mechanical engineering but in the beginning I really hated it. A while later, I realised that I liked it, as it was a branch of engineering eventually. It was the academic staff and the administration attitude of the department that I hated.

During university, I had a new field of interest; internet and electronic commerce. Since the dial-up internet access costed very expensive in Turkey, I did not have much progress in my interests.

In 2001, I attended Youth Exchange Program of Lions International and traveled to Italy for three weeks. On my return I became a member of Karşiyaka Leo Club. In the following years, I became secretary and the president of the club. I also worked as a supervisor at Lions Aegean Camp (of Lions Youth Exchange) three summers in a row.

In 2002, I began learning French. I am still learning. :)

In 2003, I began a part time job in Prodist. Finally I was having progress in internet and electronic commerce.

In 2004, I met Gökçe, who would become my wife 4 years later in 2008.

In 2005 I quit my job in Prodist in order to focus my final tasks for graduation. I graduated from university and officially became a mechanical engineer. In the same year I was admitted by Macquarie University in Sydney, NSW, Australia for a master program in commerce and information systems.

In 2005 October, I moved to Sydney. I took a preliminary program in SIBT (Sydney Institute of Business and Technology) prior to masters in Macquarie. I created my personal website aksoy.web.tr in 2005, when I was in Sydney.

In early 2007 I graduated and returned to Turkey. I began a new job at HIT International Education. I worked as an education consult especially about studying and living in Australia. I got my sworn translator license (English – Turkish & Turkish – English) in 2007.

In the summer of 2007, I had to quit my job in order to perform obligatory military service. Just before the military stuff, I got engaged with Gökçe. I was assigned to Adana as a short term gunner sergeant. After a month of basic education, I was sent to Osmaniye. The period of military task was quite changeling to me. In January 2008 I completed it and returned to Izmir.

In 2008 February, I began a new job in Oyak-Renault, the largest automobile production plant of Turkey. This meant that we were going to live in Bursa when we would get married. In 2008 August, we got married, so Gökçe had to move her work and herself to Bursa.

I always had been interested in cinema but I put my film archive together and in order in 2008. Actually, it was just the beginning in 2008; I still do it. I have hundreds of films, but not a thousand yet.

In March 2009, I introduced my blog in Turkish; aksoy.gen.tr. In August 2009 I introduced Izmir Daily Photo Blog. I am still running these two blogs.

In the middle of 2009, I extended my interest in photography and I got myself a DSLR camera (Nikon D5000). I am still new to artistic and technical side of taking photographs. Working on it.

Currently I …
